Quiet seaside campground hosts an Aussie music icon
Mystery Bay Campground has had a brush with Aussie music royalty, with none other than Daryl Braithwaite enjoying a peaceful, under-the-radar visit by the sea.
The beloved musician, best known for his iconic hit “The Horses,” shared a glowing Facebook post following his visit, praising the campground’s natural charm and tranquil atmosphere.
In his post, Daryl wrote, “Mystery Bay camping ground. It’s still the same as 15 years back except it’s got an office now. There are 2 or 3 here at the moment. Serenity!!!”
His nostalgic words struck a chord with thousands of fans online, many of whom echoed his love for Australia’s raw coastal beauty.

Nestled in the Eurobodalla region of NSW, Mystery Bay Campground is prized for its secluded, no-frills setting just moments from the beach and bordered by national park. It has long been a favourite of those seeking a back-to-nature escape and Daryl’s heartfelt reflection captured exactly what makes the place so special.
“This kind of organic recognition reminds us that Mystery Bay holds a timeless appeal,” said Park Manager Catherine Garratt.
“We didn’t get the chance to meet Daryl, but we’re so thrilled he enjoyed his visit. It means the world when someone of his stature sees the beauty here, just as so many of our regulars do,” Catherine concluded.
While Daryl’s visit was discreet, his kind words shone a welcome spotlight on the campground and the wider region. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best places are the ones that stay just as they are.
